Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest Unveils U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Logo
SPARKS, Nev., May 13, 2025— The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest has unveiled the logo for the 2025 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, highlighting the project’s theme, “Starry Skies to Neon Lights: Spirit of the Silver State.”
The logo showcases the first U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree from a national forest in Nevada. Developed by Reno’s Stan Can Design, the logo combines the iconic portal sign that welcomes visitors to their national forests and the mid-century neon signage often associated with Nevada history.
“Our 2025 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree logo celebrates Nevada, from the magic of the dark skies above our national forest to the neon signs found in every town, large and small” said Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest Supervisor Jon Stansfield. “We’re excited that a Nevada business partnered with us to create this important element of our tree’s journey to the U.S. Capitol.”
“In the end, it wasn’t just about designing a logo, it was about capturing a sense of place, a sense of pride, and a moment in time,” said Stan Can Design owner Stan Byers. “We’re really proud and honored to have the chance to tell part of Nevada’s story for the whole country to see.”
Designing the logo was a team effort, and longtime Nevada resident and graphic designer Ashley Parmentier-Smith put the final pieces together.
“I grew up in Las Vegas and saw a lot of the old neon signs decay, fall apart and get torn down,” she said. “I think the mid-century neon style paired really well with the national forest portal signs that Ranger Virgil Carroll designed in the 1960s, so it was really fun to combine the two, to celebrate the glitz and glamour of Nevada, but also our beautiful lands.”
Nevadans are also invited to make ornaments for the tree and send it off in style as it makes its way to Washington, D.C. To learn more, visit https://www.uscapitolchristmastree.com/make-an-ornament/.

Background: The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree initiative is a 55-year tradition in which one of America’s 154 national forests provides a tree for the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol for the holiday season. For the first time, “The People’s Tree” will be harvested from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Nevada, decorated by Nevadans, and transported to our nation’s capital for the holiday season.
The project is made possible with support from partners, including nonprofits Society of American Foresters and Sierra Forever, along with contributions from companies and volunteers across America.
